Taxpayers with low and middle incomes who are 60 years older or disabled are eligible for help with filing state and federal tax returns from AARP tax aid. And because the economic stimulus plan passed in February provides tax rebate checks to people who owed no taxes for 2007 or who had an income below the threshold requiring them to file, AARP will make the help available through April 30.
Tax assistance is available on the following schedule:
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center, 921 N. Clark St. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
From 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays at the Salvation Army headquarters, 701 Good Hope St. in Cape Girardeau.
In Jackson, from 1 to 4 p.m. Mondays at Riverside Regional Library, 204 S. Union, and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Jackson Senior Center, 2690 Travelers Way.
In Marble Hill, Mo. from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays at the Nutrition Center, 503 Third St.
In Chaffee, Mo., from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at the Chaffee Senior Center, 800 S. Main St.
