A 7-year-old girl was hit by a silver SUV when she was riding her bike at the intersection of Henry and Louis streets Tuesday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, according to witnesses. A 7-year-old girl was hit by a silver SUV when she was riding her bike at the intersection of Henry and Louis streets Tuesday afternoon in Cape Girardeau, according to witnesses.

The collision occurred about 4:30 p.m. with the girl riding east on Henry Street and the SUV driving north on Louis Street, according to the victim’s 9-year-old sister, Joclyn Reed Church, who saw the collision. When the SUV hit, the victim rolled up to the hood, hitting her chest and denting the vehicle, Joclyn said.

Joclyn said the victim was taken to Southeast Hospital by their father before emergency services arrived. The victim was conscious and vocalizing her pain, according to Joclyn. Cape Girardeau police public information officer Adam Glueck described the victim’s injuries as serious.

Glueck said the collision is under investigation. Neighbors at the scene said the SUV had two female occupants.
