With just a few days remaining, the online auction to sell Cape Girardeau's former federal building has drawn its second bid -- this one for $50,000.
General Services Administration spokeswoman Angela Brees confirmed that the second bid came in Wednesday. She also confirmed that the auction is still scheduled to close Tuesday. But she cautioned that if a bid comes in the last day, the auction will be extended another 24 hours.
That will continue, she said, as long as new bids come in.
But an abundance of bids has not been a problem so far. The auction, which began Nov. 9, hasn't had an offer anywhere near the $750,000 that the government had been hoping to get for the two-story building at 339 Broadway.
A previous auction last year did not result in a sale because the top bidders backed off purchasing the building.
