The 500 block of Broadway is scheduled to close at 6 a.m. today, Cape Girardeau officials announced Wednesday in a news release. The news release did not say how long Broadway would be closed.

Sabre Excavating has secured a permit from the city's Development Department and has indicated their intent to close the road for a building demolition. For several days, Sabre has been working to tear down the 105-year-old building at the corner of Broadway and Middle Street. The building was recently purchased by Trinity Lutheran Church, which has said it intends to replace the building with a mix of parking and greenspace.
