Roth, 12, competed against more than 500 youngsters in the state agriculture department-sponsored event.

The contest and workshop were conducted to improve Missouri's livestock industry by teaching youngsters and adults how to evaluate live animals by applying USDA grade standards.

It was Roth's first time to participate in this event.
