More than 25 industries in the Nash Road Industrial Park alongside Interstate 55 south of Cape Girardeau provide employment to more than 1,500 workers.

Much of the industrial park's development during the past 35 years has been attributed to the Greater Cape Girardeau Development Corp., which was founded in 1959.

The development corporation has purchased more than 600 acres since its beginning and only recently signed an agreement for another 240 acres.

Thirty-seven years of development history:

1959 -- Greater Cape Girardeau Development Corp. founded.

1962 -- New corporation purchases 160-acre tract along Nash Road, north of Cape Girardeau Regional Airport and immediately south of Diversion Channel.

1993 -- Arkansas Best Freight moved to five-acre site purchased from the corporation.

1964 -- Cape Supply Co., purchased 10 acres; Ludlow Corp., 7 acres, and Superior Electric 10 acres,

1968 -- Bennett Box constructed a plant on 3 acres.

1969 -- Moon Distribution, 6 acres; HWI, 20 acres.

1972 -- Riverside components, 6.5 acres; Georgia-Pacific, 14 acres.

1975 -- Hagan Motor, 2 acres; Brokers Warehouse, 8 acres.

1977 -- Corporations purchases 500 acres from Armstrong.

1978 -- Corporation sold 200 acres to farmer.

1980 -- Clarklift, 4 acres.

1980 -- Four acres sold, never used.

1981 -- Q.C. Corp., 17 acres.

1983 -- Truck Transport

1984 -- Biokyowa manufacturing.

1986 -- Jerry Lipps Trucking, 23 acres.

1986 -- Speculation building, 50,400 square feet, constructed.

1987 -- General Sign acquires spec building.

1988 -- Spartech Compounding builds new facility.

1994 -- Texberry Container Corp.

1996 -- Cape Girardeau Area Industrial Recruitment Association builds 60,000-square-foot spec building.
