WILCOX, Mo. (AP) -- Three women are dead after a one-car crash in northwest Missouri.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol said the 54-year-old son of one of the victims lost control of the car while trying to avoid a collision on U.S. 71 near Wilcox in Nodaway County Sunday afternoon.
The vehicle slammed into a tree, killing the three women and leaving the husband of one of the victims injured.
The dead are identified as 85-year-old Alma Morris of Claremont, Mo., 74-year-old Inez Honan of Elmo, Mo., and 69-year-old Julia Singh of Rome City, Ind.
Troopers said the car swerved to avoid an oncoming car that had drifted to the center of the highway while rounding a curve. Honan's husband was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries, and her son was not hurt.
