Three Cape Girardeau Central High School students were taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of making a violent threat at the school, police said in a news release.

An investigation into a possible threat of violence began late Tuesday, including law enforcement and the Cape Girardeau Central school resource officer, according to school communications officer Dana Saverino. Students were questioned in connection with the threat on Wednesday morning, according to a statement from superintendent James Welker. Three students were taken out of class Wednesday, Saverino said.

Saverino was unaware of any charges against the juvenile students. Saverino declined to comment on the exact nature of the threat, but Saverino and Welker said in statements the threat was violent.
