BENTON -- Three people filed for Scott County public administrator Tuesday, bringing the field of candidates to four.

A public administrator manages the financial affairs of citizens who are incapacitated or disabled and have no one to do the duties.

The candidates are H.J. "Cotton" Holyfield, Sharon Merideth and Wayne Friend, all of Sikeston, and Glendella May of Scott City.

Two candidates have help public office previously. Holyfield is a former county treasurer. May serves on the Scott City Council.

Incumbent Sonny Alcorn did not file for re-election but is seeking a county commission seat.

Other candidates:

* Sheriff: Bill Ferrell will face Rick Walter, a former sheriff's deputy, in the primary election.

* Jerry Burge, Walter Bizzell and Alcorn filed for the first district commission job held by Bizzell. Burge has not held public office.

* Jamie Burger and Dewaine Shaffer both filed for the second district commission slot. Shaffer, the incumbent, was first elected in 1996.

* Teresa Houchin is running unopposed in her third bid for county assessor. She was first elected in 1992.

* Scott C. Amick is seeking re-election as county coroner.
