OLD APPLETON -- Three men were injured in a traffic accident on Interstate 55, four miles west of Old Appleton at the 117 mile marker Saturday. OLD APPLETON -- Three men were injured in a traffic accident on Interstate 55, four miles west of Old Appleton at the 117 mile marker Saturday.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported the accident happened at 5:30 a.m. when a 1984 Volvo, driven by Paul Hamilton II, 22, of Bridgeton, struck a 1996 International tractor-trailer truck, driven by Chester Gordon, 56, of Guy, Ark. Both vehicles were southbound.

Injured in the accident were Hamilton and two passengers in his car, Randolph Schmittel of Maryland Heights and Brian Rakers of Overland.

All three were taken to Southeast Missouri Hospital for treatment of injuries. Hamilton and Schmittel were treated and released. Rakers was released Sunday.
