The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded three contracts Wednesday for major road work in Southeast Missouri.

Acting in its regular monthly meeting in Jefferson City, the commission awarded a $13.7 million contract for grading and paving the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 from the Fruitland exit to Route B near Biehle, Mo., in Perry County.

The contractor, Chester Bross Construction Co./C.B. Equipment Co. of Hannibal, will begin work in the spring with completion anticipated by fall. The work will include closing the northbound on and off ramps at Route E for a period during the work.

The commission also awarded a $1.2 million contract to Fronabarger Concreters Inc. of Oak Ridge to build a roundabout at Blomeyer junction where highways 77, 25 and the future extension of Route AB meet. The project also includes grading.

Work is expected to begin as early as March and may require the closure of Highway 77 for a time, but the closure will not occur before May and will last no longer than 45 days, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced in a news release.

The third contract awarded will pay $1.7 million to PCiRoads LLC of St. Michael, Minn., for improvements to the Mississippi River bridge connecting Chester, Ill., to Perry County, Mo.
