On Thursday and Friday, Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force officers accused two men from different states of possessing methamphetamine and carrying weapons.

The first encounter about 3 p.m. Thursday was set up by a Perry County, Missouri, informant for an eight-ball of meth to be sold in the Cape Girardeau Wal-Mart parking lot, a task-force officer wrote in a probable-cause statement.

Dominque Martez Orr, 24, of Wyatt, Missouri, pulled up in a white passenger car and walked to the window of the task-force officer's vehicle, the report stated.

"Y'all think it's cool over here?" Orr asked, then handed the officer 3.5 grams of methamphetamine he claimed was uncut, according to the report.

The officer handed back $250 before Cape Girardeau officers approached Orr and told him to get on the ground, the report stated. As he lowered himself the ground, Orr removed a handgun from his waistband and threw it underneath his vehicle, the officer stated.

Orr was arrested and charged with felony distribution of a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon.

About 10 a.m. Friday, patrolman Nick Becker was in the 500 block of South Frederick Street of Cape Girardeau, trying to find a wanted subject, when he made contact with Brannon Lavelle Mackins, 27, of Dongola, Illinois, who gave his name as Anthony Lewis, Becker wrote in a probable-cause statement.

A fellow officer had an indication Mackins was providing false information, and the officers went to detain him. At that time, Mackins began to resist arrest by pulling away from the officers, Becker wrote. After several minutes, he was placed into custody.

Officers found a large bag containing seven grams of methamphetamine, split into two sections, and a 9 mm pistol with one round in the chamber, Becker reported.

When Mackins was identified, officers found a probation and parole warrant for his arrest, Becker reported. Mackins has two felony convictions in New Madrid County, Missouri, for second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, according to the statement.

Mackins was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm.
