ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Two people are dead after separate weekend drownings on eastern Missouri rivers.
Both incidents happened on Saturday. On the Current River near Doniphan, 17-year-old Tyler Snowden of Strafford, Okla., was swimming across the river with several other young people. The teen and his brother began to have trouble and clung to a root wad. The Missouri State Water Patrol says the brother made it to shore but Tyler went under.
His body was found Sunday morning, about 50 yards downstream.
In the other incident, 21-year-old Lucas Light of Cuba jumped off a bluff into the Meramec River near Sullivan and tried to swim to a gravel bar. The Water Patrol says he went under and did not resurface. His body was found a short time later.
