One boy in the car was 14, the other 15. Police weren't sure which one was driving. Both were critically injured, Eckhard said.

Police were investigating reports that the car was racing another vehicle. Eckhard declined to speculate but said it was clear from the damage that the car was speeding.

"It doesn't appear it even tried to slow down," Eckhard said.
