The Meyers are once again in the midst of planning another walk to help combat multiple sclerosis. This year's fund-raiser is set for April 19.
Chad and Mary Meyer are serving as co-chairmen of this the 19th annual Walk for Multiple Sclerosis.
The Meyers first got interested in participating in the walk in 1988 when they treaded through the first Super Cities Walk in St. Louis.
Last year's walk in Jackson had close to 300 participators and raised $17,000. The goal this year is 500 walkers and $20,000.
Mary was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis more than 12 years ago. The disease "short circuits" the central nervous system which takes away her control over her body. Symptoms range from numbness to paralysis and blindness.
The Meyers have been active in multiple sclerosis research and volunteerism for a number of years.
To date there is no cure for multiple sclerosis and researchers have not found the cause of the disease either.
An estimated quarter of a million Americans suffer from the disease.
The money raised by the walk will go toward helping people learn to manage MS, understand it and achieve maximum independence.
This year's walk will be held in the Jackson City Park, shelter number 1, on Sunday, April 19. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the walk starts at 1 p.m.
