PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The planned expansion of a Southeast Missouri industrial park is getting a boost from the federal government.
The U.S. Department of Commerce on Thursday announced a $1.5 million grant to help build a roadway for the Perryville Industrial Park in Perry County.
Missouri officials say the money will go toward construction of a two-mile road, including acquisition of the land. The project is expected to create 215 jobs during the next three years.
The road will allow two existing businesses to expand and help the park accommodate more tenants in the future.
Chauncy Buchheit, executive director of the Southeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission, said applying for the expansion of the industrial park was a two-year process. The third time the commission applied, funding was available.
Buchheit said the road for the Perryville Industrial Park will help the entire industrial park and relieve traffic issues that have developed from truck traffic.
The Missouri Department of Transportation is a partner on the project, and will match Economic Development Administration funding, he said.
Buchheit said preliminary work on the roadway will begin as soon as possible.
