13-year-old girl gets probation in St. Joe methadone case
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) -- A 13-year-old girl has been sentenced to probation after admitting that she gave methadone pills to classmates in St. Joseph, nine of whom became sick. ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) -- A 13-year-old girl has been sentenced to probation after admitting that she gave methadone pills to classmates in St. Joseph, nine of whom became sick.
The girl was also ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and to perform 40 hours of community service. The girl had been charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance.
A judge ruled that her case remain in Buchanan County juvenile court.
During a hearing Wednesday, the girl admitted that she gave the pills to the girls, mostly eighth-graders.

The girl also must undergo counseling and write letters of apology to the classmates who became ill and the school district.
A 16-year-old boy and another 13-year-old girl on Tuesday were ordered to stay in juvenile detention on similar charges.
