CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Missouri Highway and Transportation Department will open bids Jan. 18 on 116 road projects throughout the state which are expected to cost about $32 million.

Most of the road projects involve resurfacing of sections of state highways, including several Southeast Missouri projects.

The work is being funded through money from the state road and bridge improvement program approved in 1987 by Missouri voters. Some of the projects for the Southeast District include:

Cape Girardeau County: Resurfacing of about five miles of Route 34 from Route 72 to Route UU.

Resurfacing of one mile of Route PP from Route 34 to the Jackson city limits.

Scott County: Resurfacing of the Interstate 55 outer road in Scott City from Route K north about one-half mile to the end of the roadway.

Resurfacing of eight and one-quarter miles of Route H from Route 62 north to the north city limits of Blodgett.

Bollinger County: Resurfacing of three miles of Route 34 from Route ZZ to Route 51.

A two and one-half mile resurfacing of Route 75 from Route 105 to Route DD.

Mississippi County: Resurfacing on Route B beginning at Route 62 and extending south for eight and one-half miles to Route 80.
