Competitive and fitness runners, joggers and walkers are invited to participate in the 10th annual Kohlfeld Riverfest Run June 12 in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Starting time is 7:30 p.m. at Main and Broadway, featuring the 5.25 mile road run and the 1 mile fitness walk and fun run.
The road run has become one of the most popular running events in Southeast Missouri, attracting competitive and recreational runners from a wide area.
Joy Gilbert of the Cape Girardeau Road Runners, said, "The coveted prizes of gold watches for the first male and first female finishers encourage a high level of competition."
Fifty trophies also are awarded to male and female age division winners.
"For the first time this year," Gilbert said, "everyone who finishes will receive a commemorative award ribbon at the finish line."
The 1 mile fitness walk and fun run encourages youngsters through senior citizens to enjoy walking, jogging or running.
Participants will receive a Riverfest Run T-shirt, featuring a new design for the 10th annual event. Post-race refreshments will be provided by Pepsi, Gatorade and Kohlfeld Distributing.
The entry fee is $5 for registrations received by June 9 and $6 for entries received after June 9. T-shirts are not guaranteed for those registering after June 9, but entries will be accepted until 7 p.m. on race day.
Entry forms are available at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, Cape Girardeau Area Vocational-Technical School, the Student Recreation Center and Universal Physique.
