SIKESTON IS PULLING TOGETHER

The city of Sikeston has had more than its share of racial tension and related strife in recent years. Now the city appears to be on track with a variety of programs designed to bring the community together in ways that should promote harmony and reduce crime.

The latest effort is the opening of a mission to promote education and to feed the hungry sponsored by Sikeston Civic Improvement Inc. A community policing substation is set to open. A Citizens' Police Academy began informing citizens about police policies and procedures in February.

With these efforts and ongoing programs throughout the community, Sikeston residents can take some pride that they have chosen to do something about the problems instead of becoming victims.
