Homeless Connect

An event that helped 356 homeless and low-income individuals last year, including more than 200 families, returns to the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau today.

Project Homeless Connect will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., assisting those with financial struggles to connect with a range of services. Roy Jones, of the Community Caring Council and one of the event organizers, told the Southeast Missourian on Thursday there will be 50 service providers and supervised child care. Free food also will be available.

Jones said last year there were 2,000 services provided. He said it's a day when everyone tries to say yes to help those in need, and with more people finding out about the event he expects attendance to exceed that of 2012.

The outreach is sponsored by the Governor's Committee to End Homelessness and is designed around a national model.

We're pleased Cape Girardeau will host Project Homeless Connect again. If you or someone you know could benefit from the services, consider stopping by the Osage Centre today.

Thank you to all the organizers and to everyone who volunteers their time and donates financially to help the poor in this area and beyond.
