Students seek hosts for visitors in March

For the third time since 1982, Central High School will be the host next March of the Missouri Association of Students Councils. This means 1,200 middle school and high school representatives will be in Cape Girardeau for three days of programs and fun.

It's a big responsibility to be the host city for such a student gathering. Cape Girardeau frequently welcomes large gatherings for important meetings, but in most cases those visitors take advantage of the many hotel and motel rooms that are available in the area. In this case, however, students seek the hospitality of residents who will acts as hosts, provide breakfast and transport students to and from meetings.

In addition, the Central High School Student Senate still needs to raise $11,000 of its $15,000 goal to cover convention expenses.

Cape Girardeau's Convention and Visitors Bureau has been working with local organizers since October. The CVB is available to provide brochures, lapel pins, registration assistance, name tags, tours and welcome bags. But host families and funding are still needed.

Anyone who would like to help out should contact Bonnie Strack or Kathy Wright, student senate advisers, at 335-8228.
