LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: NEWSPAPER COVERAGE OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

Dear Editor,

I want to thank you for the excellent coverage the Southeast Missourian provided for the local events that took place during National Historic Preservation Week. Mark Bliss' April 26 article set the stage for the week. The Calendar in the May 1 edition provided the dates, times and places. The photographs which ran throughout the week added welcome emphases.

The most important item which ran, however, was the lead editorial on May 2. It is one thing for a newspaper to cover local happenings but when the editor takes the time to so succinctly state the importance of historic preservation those of us in the preservation community are encouraged. Our message has not fallen on deaf ears.

Cape Girardeau is rich with history and the loss of any part of it is a loss to all.
