The person who wrote the letter to the editor a few days ago about Cape Girardeau not having a bus station brought back to mind an incident of the recent past.

Some families were asked to house some foreign students who were on a tour of industry in different states. We volunteered to keep two students. We were to pick them up at the bus station. Several families went to where we were told to pick up the students. We waited until almost noon, and no bus came.

We were then informed by phone that the students were waiting to be picked up at Sikeston. We drove there to pick them up and found that they had passed through Cape Girardeau much earlier but could not get off the bus due to the fact that Cape Girardeau had no bus station, and they were taken on to St. Louis. They were then put on a bus to come back to Cape Girardeau, but when they got here they could not get off the bus, for we did not have a bus station, so they were taken on to Sikeston.

The New York coordinator was shocked when she found out what had happened. She could not imagine a city the size of Cape Girardeau not having a bus station.

I wonder what kind of report the students sent back to their various countries. Can we expect tourists?

All the families had to drive the students back to Sikeston to get a bus to their various destinations.
