LETTERS: SILENT KILLER: NATION'S PORNOGRAPHY

To the editor:

By masses, it has entered into our society unlike any other civilization known unto man. This dark, foreboding cloud of sin is a black curse hovering over its victims to smother and destroy. It is a cancer to the mind and soul, eating away every moral fiber of anyone that will partake of it. It has come to take our inheritance and destroy our homeland, to ravage women and to make our children homeless. To American and the Christian people, I say: What is being done to annihilate this silent killer?

Because it is so readily available, many have fallen prey to the lure of pornography. In any neighborhood, upper-class or lower-class, it is there. Inside the convenience store on the book rack, it is there. At the family bookstore not far from Mother Goose and Nancy Drew, it is there. Only a keystroke away from Microsoft Encarta 98 Encyclopedia, it is there. It is so near to where one can read the U.S. Constitution.

But American the great has fallen. She has fallen into a pit that is dark and deep. American no longer bears the fruits of integrity. She has been lured to sleep with the whore and to partake of her iniquities. A country once blessed with great leaders hangs its head in shame because its president has no moral backbone and seemingly does not know right from wrong.

God will soon judge America for her immorality and her lascivious ways. According to Revelation 18:7-8: "How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her."

Yet the open sewer of pornography does not stop with the world but has seeped through the cracks and crevices and found its way into the church. Where are the great leaders and the spiritual men and women who can stand in this dark and desperate hour against such deviation? Has our society seared our conscience? Or is it just easier to burn a blind eye?

How long will we allow pornography, the silent killer, to destroy our homeland and to rob us of our integrity and moral fiber? And so I say again to the American people and the Christians: It is time to awake out of sleep, for the destroyer sits at our door.
