LETTERS: FOR ALL GAINS, THERE IS A PRICE TO PAY

To the editor:

This is mostly about the school shootings that have occurred recently and the spin put on them by people with their own agenda. This is my contribution.

Clarence Darrow has always been a hero to me since Dr. Bolen introduced his ideas to me in a biology class some 50 years ago. In the movie, "Inherit the Wind," Spencer Tracey, representing Darrow, says in effect that whenever we gain something materially or technologically, there is a price to pay. We may gain telephone communication, but we lose some of our privacy. There are other examples, and we could also add that if we give practically everyone, regardless of age, access to guns, we put ourselves and our children more in peril. It is a hard bargain.
