Scott City bids farewell to Doug Berry, who is retiring as superintendent. Berry has served the Scott City public schools for 29 years -- first as an elementary principal and then as superintendent. He spent the first five years of his career in Cape Girardeau as a teacher at Washington Elementary School.

The school has made many advancements under his leadership. New computer labs have been installed. All classrooms are air conditioned. Renovations were completed. The district has no debt and operates with the minimum tax levy required by law.

Roger Tatum, who served Oak Ridge as superintendent, will take over this fall in Scott City. He has some big shoes to fill.
