Most folks in the Cape Girardeau area know Teen Challenge as the organization that has a popular stand during the height of the strawberry season. Others know some Teen Challenge participants through their work mowing lawns and raking yards.

Some are surprised to learn that Mid-America Teen Challenge is part of a national organization that has one of the highest success rates in turning around the lives of men and women who have been addicted to drugs and alcohol. It does this through a program that is long on Christian principles and short on pampering.

The 25-year-old facility north of Cape Girardeau currently has some 100 men in its program. If the fund drive is successful, there will be room for several more, plus much-needed improvements to existing buildings.

The local group has as its goal to raise $500,750, and recently it reached the halfway mark after four months of effort.

Anyone interested in helping Teen Challenge reach its goal can write to the organization at P.O. Box 1089, Cape Girardeau, Mo., 63702. The telephone number is 335-6508.
