Congratulations to Old Town Cape honorees

Old Town Cape recognized a handful of individuals and organizations recently for their role in preserving history and involvement in the downtown community.

Drs. Bert and Mary Ann Kellerman took home two of the awards bestowed Feb. 27. The first was the Judith Ann Crow Residential Historic Rehabilitation Award for their work rehabilitating the Oliver-Leming House, which is home of the Missouri state flag. The other award was the Charles L. Hutson Visionary Award, earned for their commitment to preserving the city's history.

Other honorees were:

* Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents, Preservation of Heritage Award, for the $25 million renovation of Academic Hall (award given five times in last 10 years).

* Jason Jewelers and Ervin's Metalsmiths Inc., Business Excellence Award.

* Clemco Development LLC, The John Boardman Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation Award, for its work at the A.C. Vasterling building at 407 Broadway.

* Cape Riverfront Market executive committee members, volunteers of the year.

It was announced a $12,000 scholarship of Southeast's Historic Preservation Program and Old Town Cape would be awarded in honor of Dr. Steven J. Hoffman.

Old Town Cape is an organization devoted to the preservation and growth of the downtown area, which benefits the entire city. Those honored are just a few of the key contributors who add life and energy of the area.

Congratulations to all of those honored or recognized for their outstanding achievements.
