Have you attended the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament at the Show Me Center this week? After a one-day break today, the tournament resumes tomorrow with semifinal games and will finish on Friday with first- and third-place competitions.

Both the high school girls and boys Christmas tournaments are a great way to catch competitive basketball games and potentially get a glimpse of future star athletes. Just a few years ago Cape Girardeau Central High School standout Darnell Wilks competed in the Christmas tournament. Today, Wilks is part of the Harlem Globetrotters.

The Globetrotters kicked off the North American leg of the 2012 World Tour on Monday. Three different squads will play nearly 270 games in more than 230 cities during the tour, including a scheduled event Jan. 4 at the Show Me Center.

Though Wilks won't be on the squad performing incredible dunks and other amazing feats in Cape Girardeau, the game is still one to watch. Those interested in attending the 7 p.m. matchup may purchase tickets -- which start at $19 -- at the Show Me Center box office or by phone at 651-5000.

Congratulations to Wilks for making the prestigious Globetrotters team. This achievement is just one more reason to catch the Southeast Missourian Christmas Tournament this week. You never know what future stars might be playing.
