John Jordan

Last month Cape Girardeau County Sheriff John Jordan was sworn in as the president of the Missouri Sheriffs' Association. Throughout his yearlong term, Jordan, who has served as Cape Girardeau County's sheriff for more than 16 years, will meet with county sheriffs around the state discussing what issues each face.

Jordan's ambitious agenda while president includes pursuing funding for better 911 services on cellphones and better pay for sheriffs in rural counties. He's also looking to promote ways to reduce state spending. One example is Cape Girardeau County's use of video arraignment, a mechanism that could be used to cut jail costs around the state.

In addition to being respected locally, Jordan has been recognized statewide as the right leader for the job. Former association president and Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox is one of those supporters. "He's an outstanding sheriff and a great person," Cox said. "He could be the best president the association has ever had."

Congratulations to Jordan on this honor. We wish him all the best in this new challenge and look forward to watching him lead the association's efforts for strong and effective law enforcement across the state.
