Support for CGPS Foundation

To the editor:I am writing to express my thanks, on behalf of the board of directors of the Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation, to those in our community who contributed to our gala Saturday night. The Penguin Party Gala marks the first event, since the foundation's reorganization in 2004, that so many gathered and contributed to our effort. The funds raised will support our Great Ideas teaching grants for Cape's public schoolteachers to use in innovative classroom initiatives.

The evening was set with an elegant tone by the wonderful music of the Central High School jazz band. Many thanks to the musicians and directors for their time and talent. The foundation also greatly appreciates the donors and businesses that contributed to our live auction, expertly run by Nelson Sparks. The music of Mudpuppy ended the event in full swing. All involved made it a night to remember!

To those patrons not specifically connected to the district, I extend special thanks for your shared recognition in the importance of a strong public school system to Cape Girardeau.

The foundation's classroom grants program is intended to contribute to the quality of education offered to our public school students, and to continue the excellent educational tradition of the district. Our heartfelt thanks goes to those who made our Penguin Party and annual drive such a success. By doing so, you have positively influenced the education of Cape's public-school students.

STACY KINDER, President, Cape Girardeau Public School Foundation
