There wasn't much drama in the opening round of the Class 1 District 2 tournament Saturday at Scott County Central.

Top-seeded Leopold won in dominating fashion, defeating The Fulton School at St. Albans 96-16. The win was the 23rd of the season for the Wildcats, which tied the school record for a season.

Ten different players scored for Leopold. Senior Kyle Stroder led the way with 23 points, while Cameron Davis added 18 and DJ Keim contributed 15.

Sophomore Austin Bucher five points, eight steals and four assists, and senior James Jansen had nine rebounds and five steals to go along with six points.

Leopold will face No. 4 seed Richland in the semifinal round at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Richland defeated No. 5 Delta 80-41 on Saturday behind a 50-point performance from 6-10 senior Richard Forshee,

Forshee scored 24 of his team's 26 third-quarter points to help put the Bobcats away.

Dillon Lincoln lead Delta (5-17) with 24 points.

No. 2 Oak Ridge trailed after the first quarter in its game again the McKinley Classical Leadership Academy before eventually pulling away for a 69-40 victory.

Senior Hunter Seyer led the Blue Jays with 24 points and made six 3-pointers in the contest. Lance Rohde added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Kelby Brown had four assists to go along with seven points.

The Blue Jays are still without leading scorer Ryan Below, who has an injured ankle. Oak Ridge coach Adam Stoneking called Below's return for a semifiinal matchup against Scott County Central at 8 p.m. Tuesday "extremely questionable."

No. 3 seed SCC advanced with a 101-73 win over Bell City on Saturday as it began its bid for a fifth consecutive state title.

Bell City tied the game at 30 late in the second quarter before the Braves eventually separated themselves in the second half.

Freshman Jeffrey Porter led SCC with 21 points, and senior Tyler Masters added 18.

Senior Jerad Yates scored a game-high 27 points for Bell City, while McKenzie Vires had 22.

Top-seeded Oran jumped out to a 30-point first-quarter lead on its way to a quarterfinal win over Valley in Bismarck.

Four Oran players finished in double digits. Alex Heuring had 15 points, Hunter Schlosser had 14, Kody Moore had 11 and Seth Ressel had 10.

The Eagles will face Chaffee at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinal round.

Saxony Lutheran coach Tim Winkler said his team had multiple chances in the fourth quarter to pull within a single score of St. Pius, but the Crusaders (10-16) weren't able to score on those possessions, and St. Pius made free throws down the stretch.

There were a total of 49 fouls called in what Winkler labeled a "very physical game."

St. Pius made 23 of 34 free throws while Saxony made just 18 of its 31 attempts.

"We missed too many free throws," said Winkler, who also lamented his team's 16 turnovers. "In a game like that, it'll come back to haunt you."

Saxony senior Gabe Bohnert scored a team-high 21 points before fouling out with less than two minutes remaining in the game. Junior Jack Lake added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Scott City 69, Arcadia Valley 62 (OT)

No. 4 seed Scott City used a furious fourth-quarter comeback to rally past Arcadia Vally.

The Rams trailed 50-29 in the final period before going on a 22-1 run, which was capped by a 3-pointer from senior Ryan Fortner that tied the game at 51.

"We just woke up and started playing," Scott City coach Mark Dannenmueller said. "We put a press on."

Fortner scored 23 points in the game, and made three of his four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. He also added nine rebounds and five assists.

"He's just been big," said Dannenmueller said, who pointed out that Fortner has averaged 15 or 16 points a game over his team's last nine games. "All of his 3s came in the second half."

Senior Jonathan McFall made two free throws with four seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 53. McFall finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Senior Ryan Brock scored a game-high 27 points and had nine rebounds while freshman Drew Short added four points and six rebounds.

Scott City improved to 15-12 and will face top seed Clearwater in the semifinal round at 6 p.m. Tuesday at West County High School.
