PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The St. Vincent High football team bounced back from last week's season-opening loss by routing visiting Brentwood 31-8 Friday night.
"It was good to win after last week," said St. Vincent coach Keith Winkler, whose 1-1 squad was blanked by Park Hills Central 23-0 in its opener. "We didn't have nearly as many mistakes. We played good, fundamental football."
Adam Bockman scored two touchdowns, on a pair of 3-yard runs, and rushed for 132 yards on 18 carries. Brad Renner gained 82 yards on just six carries as he scored from 45 yards out. The Indians' other touchdowns were by Tyler Paulus from 10 yards and Chris Meyer from 19 yards.
St. Vincent, which led 19-0 at halftime, finished with 306 yards rushing and 330 yards of total offense. Brentwood was held to right around 100 yards of offense.
FREDERICKTOWN 36, CHAFFEE 23
CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Fredericktown jumped out to a huge lead and held off a furious Chaffee rally as both teams are now 1-1.
The Blackcats led 29-0 at halftime before Chaffee was able to storm back with 23 fourth-quarter points.
Brad Chambers scored two touchdowns for Fredericktown, on runs of 50 and 43 yards. He finished with 116 yards on eight carries. Kyle Stephens also tallied twice for the 'Cats while Kyle Tesreau added a TD.
Chaffee got a 5-yard touchdown run from Jeremy Dannenmueller, a 29-yard pass from B.J. Spitzer to James Reischman and 40-yard fumble return by Justin Gadberry. Brandon Davis also booted a 42-yard field for the Red Devils.
Red Devils' running back Jeremy Hahn gained 147 yards on 25 carries. He had picked up 175 yards in the season opener.
"It was a good comeback but we ran out of time," said Chaffee coach Allan Horrell. "We went in at halftime and just told the kids basically to forget what happened in the first half and play some good football."
STE. GENEVIEVE 34, PERRYVILLE 0
PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Ste. Genevieve held Perryville to just 38 yards total offense as the Pirates fell to 0-2 on the season.
The Pirates completed two passes for 14 yards and were held to 24 yards rushing. Jesse Whistler accounted for 22 of the yards on 10 carries.
Ste. Genevieve scored twice in the second quarter and led 13-0 at halftime. The Dragons upped the lead to 21-0 by the close of the third quarter and added two touchdowns in the final period.
"Ste. Genevieve stuck it to us and we couldn't do anything about it," said Perryville coach Lance Bell. "We didn't come ready to play."
