The Southeast Missouri State softball team enjoyed a successful season opener Thursday.
Whitney Dupuis and Giana Zimmerman combined for a five-inning no-hitter as the Redhawks routed host Jackson State 11-0.
Dupuis, a sophomore, received credit for the win. She struck out three and walked two.
Zimmerman, a freshman, struck out three and walked one.
Southeast had nine hits, including a home run from junior Alex Ramirez, who went 2-for-2.
Freshman Renee Kurtz went 3-for-3 and freshman Tiffany Blanco was 2-for-2.
Freshman Shelby Stein doubled and drove in four runs. Sophomore Carmen Fowler also doubled.
After a scoreless first inning, the Redhawks plated four runs in the second, five in the third and two in the fifth.
Southeast continues on the road for the three-day Louisiana-Monroe Mardi Gras Tournament that has the Redhawks scheduled to play five games, including two today.
