The Louisville Cardinals scored a goal in each half and used two saves by Jackson High School graduate Paige Brown to record a 2-0 soccer victory over Southeast Missouri State on Monday night.
Shelby Cohen recorded her first goal of the season on her only shot of the night, beating Southeast goalkeeper Kindra Lierz from 30 yards out 7 minutes, 11 seconds into the first half. It was the first shot of the game for either team.
Allison Price added an insurance goal with her first tally of the season, scoring off a cross pass from Rachel Avant in the 79th minute. Price had a team-high six shots with three on goal.
The Cardinals outshot the Redhawks 16-4 in the game, but only five of the Cardinals' shots were on goal with three saved by Lierz, including a stop of a penalty kick by Hannah Kondermann during the 24th minute.
Southeast only put two of its four shots on goal. Brown, a 2013 graduate of Jackson, made a save on a shot by Natasha Minor in the first half and stopped an attempt by Jennifer Antonacci midway through the second half.
It was the first shutout of the season for the junior and the 11th of her collegiate career. She had six shutouts as a sophomore and four as a freshman with the Cardinals.
Louisville, a member of the ACC, improved to 2-2-1.
Southeast, which dropped to 2-1-1, returns to action Friday when it plays Florida Atlantic in West Palm Beach, Florida.
