The Southeast Missouri State University gymnastics team used a strong bars and floor routine to knock off visiting Eastern Michigan 193.975 to 191.750 at Houck Field House Wednesday night.
Southeast won three of four events, with Ashley Godwin taking three first-place finishes. Godwin scored matching 9.825s to win the floor and bar routines. Godwin's 39.075 also was good enough to give her the all-around crown.
Southeast's other individual winner was first-year gymnast Tara Boldt, who scored a 9.825 to win the beam exercise. Godwin finished third on the beam with a 9.7.
On the vault Boldt was Southeast's top finisher with a 9.75, good for third place. Amy Cole took third-place finishes in the floor and bar exercises with 9.775's.
Southeast softball team loses a pair at Evansville
Evansville, behind strong starting pitching, took both games of a softball doubleheader with Southeast at Evansville, Ind.
Evansville (8-2) won a tight first game 3-1 and shut out Southeast (1-3) 6-0 in the second game.
In Game 1, Evansville plated two runs in the first after Kelly Birk issued four walks in the inning.
Birk (1-1) pitched all six innings and allowed five runs on five hits fanning three and walking four. Birk also scored the only Southeast run in the fourth off an RBI double from Kemi Rampi.
Birk's counterpart, Katie Markle (5-1), also went the distance, allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts.
Game 2 had a similar beginning as defense again let the Otahkians down.
Emily Winters drew another leadoff walk for Evansville. Winters advanced on a bunt and fielder's choice then scored on a passed ball. An RBI single from Brooke Luker gave the Purple Aces a 2-0 lead.
Luker finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Casey Clutch (3-1) pitched all seven innings and scattered five hits while walking three and fanning two.
Mel Van Velkinburgh (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings.
