SIKESTON — Sikeston unleashed a long-awaited offensive onslaught, securing its first win of the season dominantly with a 14-2 victory over Class 2, No. 6 Chaffee on Friday, April 19.

"Our offense finally came alive," said Sikeston's coach Wyatt Pratt. "We took great at-bats up and down the lineup."

The Bulldogs (2-14) offense ignited early against the Red Devils (17-3) with Peyton Mitchell scoring on an error in the first inning, followed by scores from Luke Gadberry and William Stokes.

Sikeston pushed the lead to 4-0 later in the inning after Keane Atkins reached on a dropped third strike and Luke Gadberry scored, William Stokes scored on a bases-loaded walk, and Jamsion Sifford singled to score Wicker.

Sikeston built an 8-0 lead in the second inning after Pierce Baker doubled to score Stokes and Wicker, and Baker and Luke Gadberry scored on errors.

Chaffee responded with runs in the second and third innings, but Sikeston answered with a four-run fourth. Atkins' RBI single, an error, and doubles by Mitchell and Gadberry pushed the lead to 14-2.

Rush Ault secured the win, allowing just one earned run on three hits in a complete-game effort.

Saturday's doubleheader against South Iron (10-6) was a battle.

Despite Stokes's 3-for-3 performance with three RBIs, Sikeston fell 9-8 in the first game.

The Bulldogs rallied in the second game, with Mitchell (2-for-3, double, two RBIs) and Conner Michael (2-for-3, three RBIs) leading the offense, and Luke Gadberry adding a solo home run.

Strong pitching from Carter Goodman, Jamison Sifford, Pierce Baker, and Colt Parker helped secure the 10-2 win.

"Now that we have those guys back we have a lot more options for matchups," Pratt said. "This past weekend our guys took the momentum we built up from Friday night's win and carried that right over into Saturday."
