The Southeast Missouri State University women's tennis squad slammed Austin Peay State University for a resounding 8-1 victory on the Southeast tennis courts Saturday.

The home team claimed five of six singles matches and swept all three doubles competitions. Southeast improved to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in Ohio Valley Conference play.

In singles play, No. 1 Valerie Vanderstappen beat Martine Edwards 6-3, 3-6, 6-1; No. 3 Mmaphala Letsatle downed Susan Aurich 6-0, 7-5; No. 4 Lucie Wade defeated Kristi Laney 6-2, 6-4; No. 5 Vicky Wood beat Robin Walton 6-0, 5-2; and No. 6 Christi Cobb downed Ellie Woodard 6-0, 6-1.

The lone loss for Southeast came in the No. 2 match when Elena Novikova fell to Austin Peay's Angie McLean 7-6, 4-6, 6-4.

In doubles play Novikova and Letsatle beat Edwards and McLean 8-2; Vanderstappen and Wade defeated Aurich and Laney 8-4; and Wood and Cobb downed Woodard and Walton 8-1.

Southeast returns to action Tuesday with a match at Southern Illinois.
