Scott City's football team used a late touchdown to slip past host Portageville 14-7 Friday night.

The Rams (2-0 overall and in the SEMO Conference Southern Division) trailed 7-6 with less than two minutes remaining.

But after a short Portageville punt, the Rams took over only about 35 yards from the end zone. Less than 30 seconds later, they went ahead on a trick play.

Quarterback Mark Johnston threw a lateral pass to former quarterback-turned-receiver Luke McClellan, who hit Jason Schenimann from about 20 yards out for the touchdown. Johnston passed to Dane Gibson for the two-point conversion.

Portageville (1-1, 1-1) drove to Scott City's 10-yard line before time expired.

The Rams' first touchdown came in the opening quarter as Johnston scored on a 1-yard run, but the conversion failed.

St. Vincent scored 10 second-half points to pick up a road victory and remain perfect on the season.

The Indians (2-0) received a 25-yard field goal by Jonathan Buehler midway though the third quarter and an 8-yard touchdown run by Anthony Brown early in the fourth quarter. Buehler tacked on the PAT.

For the second straight week, St. Vincent defeated a team it lost to last season during a 7-4 campaign.

Fort Zumwalt North 29, Perryville 27

The Pirates rallied from a 28-6 halftime deficit at home but were penalized on a two-point conversion attempt to tie with 40 seconds remaining in the game.

Perryville quarterback Cory Buerk completed 19-of-41 passes for 224 yards and two touchdown passes. He also ran for a score but threw six interceptions.

Matt Unterreiner rushed for 82 yards on 21 carries. He also passed 71 yards to Clinton Rice for a touchdown in the first half.

David Ochs had 14 tackles and Matt Schamburg added eight for the Pirates (1-1).
