The top two seeds will meet today for the Class 2 District 3 baseball tournament title.

No. 1 Scott City defeated No. 4 East Prairie 7-3 on Wednesday in a semifinal at the Perryville City Park. No. 2 Charleston nipped No. 6 Meadow Heights 3-2 in the other semifinal.

Today's championship game is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m., with the winner earning a berth in Monday's sectional round.

Scott City 7, East Prairie 3

Jamie Scholz stood out on the mound and at the plate for the Rams (16-4), who prevailed despite having just four hits.

Scholz improved to 8-0 with a five-hitter. He struck out nine and walked three while blanking the Eagles (13-10) over the final four innings.

"He started out slow but came on strong at the end. He got better as the game went along," Scott City coach Lance Amick said. "He's had a really good year."

Scholz had a two-run single during a four-run bottom of the first inning for the Rams, who received four walks in the frame along with an error that plated two.

Scholz finished with two hits.

"We didn't hit the ball well. We haven't hit very well in the tournament yet," Amick said. "Hopefully we can get the bats rolling."

Scott City's four-run first inning wiped out the 1-0 lead East Prairie gained in the top of the frame. The Eagles made it 4-3 in the third before the Rams plated two in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Now the Rams will shoot for their third district title in the past four years.

"We're excited to be in the final," Amick said. "We don't take this stuff for granted."

Charleston 3, Meadow Heights 2

After upsetting third-seeded Saxony Lutheran in Tuesday's first round, Meadow Heights (10-6) threatened its second straight tournament surprise.

But Charleston (17-7) scored twice in the bottom of the fourth inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and the Blue Jays were able to hold on.

"It was a real tight game," Charleston coach Michael Minner said.

Ethan Browning pitched a four-hitter for the win, while Brent Garland took the loss despite allowing just six hits.

"Their pitcher threw the ball well and Ethan pitched a good game," Minner said.

Charleston has its sights set on the first district baseball title in school history. The Blue Jays lost to Scott City 13-2 earlier this season but Minner said, "Our kids feel like we can win it."
