The Southeast Missouri State softball team won both its games Sunday in the All-Missouri Strike Out Against Cancer Classic at the Southeast Softball Complex.
Southeast posted a 3-1 victory over Missouri State, then blasted four home runs in a 7-3 win over Saint Louis University.
In the first game, Missouri State (8-3) grabbed a 1-0 lead against winning pitcher Elaine Fisher in the second inning, but Southeast tied the score in the third on Michelle Summers' RBI single and pushed across two runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Allie Borowiak and Stacia Dopudja.
Carmen Fowler went 3-for-3 and scored two runs for Southeast (7-3), while Summers added two hits. Missouri State outhit Southeast 10-8 but stranded nine runners, including the bases loaded in the seventh.
Fisher struck out two and walked one.
Missouri State starter Melissa Porche allowed six hits in five innings and took the loss.
In the second game, Southeast again fell behind 1-0 but overtook the Billikens (4-9) with a three-run home run by Dopudja in the bottom of the first. The one-out blast was her first of the season.
Borowiak added a two-run shot in the second inning. Borowiak went deep again in the sixth, providing the back end of back-to-back home runs with Lauren Bradley.
Borowiak, Dopudja, Summers, Bradley and Meghan McDonald each had two hits for Southeast, which had 11 hits overall. Winning pitcher Whitney Dupuis and Fisher limited Saint Louis to four hits. Dupuis allowed three hits and walked four in 3 2/3 innings, while Fisher, who earned a save, gave up one hit and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings.
Billikens starter Stacy Gillette allowed six hits and five runs in 1 1/3 innings and took the loss.
Missouri State opened Sunday's play with a 13-7 win over Saint Louis.
Southeast returns to action Wednesday, when Evansville visits for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
Gymnastics team falls
The Southeast Missouri State gymnastics team dropped a dual road meet with Illinois State, falling 193.1025-192.900.
Southeast's Sandra Blake won the all-around competition with a 38.650. Blake turned in a first-place finish in the floor exercise with a 9.850, which was matched by Illinois State's Meaghan Koshma and Amanda Chandler.
Southeast's Brianna Gaddie also tied for first with Koshma in the vault, with each turning in a 9.875.
The Redhawks scored their highest team total in floor (48.900) and were only able to outscore the Redbirds in one event -- beam (47.725 to 46.800).
