Heavy rain forced the postponement of Friday's scheduled opening two games in the National Baseball Congress Mid-South Regional at Capaha Field.

Plaza Tire Capahas manager Jess Bolen, whose squad is hosting the three-team, double-elimination event, said the hope is to get three games in today and then finish Sunday.

The Springfield (Mo.) Generals and Pine Bluff (Ark.) Braves will square off at 2 p.m. today, with the top-seeded Capahas facing the winner at about 5 p.m.

The two losers will play at about 8 p.m. in an elimination contest, although that could be pushed back to Sunday if one team would be competing in its third game of the day.

Bolen said Sunday's play would probably begin at 1 p.m., although that has not yet officially been decided.

If three games are held today, then Sunday's action would begin with the championship. An if-necessary contest would potentially follow.

"A lot of whether we're able to start at 2 p.m. [today] depends on if it rained more overnight and if we're able to get the field ready in time," Bolen said. "Hopefully we'll be able to."

The tournament winner automatically qualifies for the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kan. The Capahas are the defending Mid-South Regional champions.
