SIKESTON — Charleston's Ko'Terrion Owens defied expectations, earning a spot on the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association’s (MBCA) Class 3 All-State Team.
"I never would have thought it was possible," Owens said. “It means a lot to me.”
His path was far from easy. Opponents relentlessly schemed to shut him down, yet his determination prevailed. The senior averaged an impressive 20 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals per game – a testament to his tenacity amidst relentless defensive focus.
Owens' rise is a product of years of hard work, a fact his Charleston coach Jamarcus Williams readily acknowledges.
"Owens deserves all-state because he's put in the work for four years to earn it," Williams said. “He's a tremendous kid who's willing to do whatever he has to do to help his team win games. He accepted the challenge of being the leader and blew it away. We are all happy and proud of him.”
This leadership fueled the Bluejays' 14th consecutive district championship, adding another chapter to the program's impressive legacy.
Owens' contributions were vital in maintaining Charleston's district dominance, a responsibility he embraced with steadfast commitment.
Now, Owens looks to the future, eager to continue his growth both on and off the court.
"I will be continuing my basketball and academic career," he says, "I just haven't decided where yet."
