Scott Wittenborn scored two goals, including a game-tying shot off an assist from Matt Pobst as Notre Dame remained unbeaten with a 2-2 tie with Poplar Bluff on Tuesday at Notre Dame High School.

Notre Dame (6-0-1) got out to a 1-0 lead seven minutes into the game when Wittenborn scored an unassisted goal. But Poplar Bluff scored two goals on headers to take a 2-1 lead.

"It was the first time we've been behind this year," said Notre Dame coach Brad Wittenborn. "You never know what a young team will do in that situation and we kept our composure for the most part. We still have some things to get better at, but it was a pretty good game. Both teams played hard."

In junior varsity action, Blake Fisher scored on a Travis Siebert assist as the Bulldogs posted a 1-0 shutout behind the goalkeeping of Brendan McMeel.

Jackson JV 6, Kennett 1

KENNETT, Mo. -- Jackson's JV posted its first win of the season against three losses.

Trent Forester netted two goals for the Indians. Jeffery Beck, Stuart Knowlan, Matt Gregory and Trea Brotherton rounded out the scoring.

VOLLEYBALL

Jackson 15-15

Cape Central 5-12

JACKSON, Mo. -- Jackson (9-2-2) defeated an improving Cape Central (1-7) in straight sets on Tuesday.

Jennifer Mesey with 10 kills, nine blocks and five aces loomed large in the Jackson victory. Jessie Koeper had four kills, four aces and Jenna Leet had five kills.

The Lady Tiger's Emily McElreath had four kills and four service points.

Jackson's JV won 15-6, 15-12 and the freshmen squads split. Jackson won 15-9 and the second game ended 10-8 with Central ahead before time expired.

Bell City 15-15

Poplar Bluff 9-5

BELL CITY, Mo. -- Class 1A Bell City showed 4A Poplar Bluff it is still a team to be reckoned with on the volleyball court.

The straight set win improved the Lady Cubs record to 2-7-4.

Bell City had contributions from several players including Katie Spears (five kills, six digs), Brooke Stephens (four kills), Whitney Abner (12 assists) and Erin Dissler (10 service points).

Zalma 15-15

Oak Ridge 3-11

OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- Zalma (8-2-2) had little trouble with the Lady Bluejays despite a lethargic second game.

Zalma was led by Erika Campbell with three kills, nine service points, including two aces, and one block. Carrie Pixley recorded eight kills and three aces and Amber Buehler had six kills. Selena Slaughter set up her teammates with 17 assists.

Zalma's JV team won its match in three sets 15-5, 10-15, 15-3.

Meadow Heights 15-15

Leopold 8-11

PATTON, Mo. -- Meadow Heights rolled to a straight-set victory over visiting Leopold to improve to 10-1 on the season.

Tessa Bollinger led Meadow Heights with nine kills and eight digs. Holly Boyd added six kills and five blocks.

For Leopold, Courtney Wesbecher and Holly Jansen each had seven kills and Kyle Horrell had five. Wendy Vandeven dished out 14 assists.

In JV action, Meadow Heights won 15-5, 15-10. On Monday night, Leopold's JV defeated Marquand 15-6, 16-14.

Oran 15-13-15

Chaffee 6-15-10

ORAN, Mo. -- Maria Eftink hammered 12 kills as Oran won in three sets.

Stacey Eftink had 13 service points for Oran (5-4).

Oran also won the JV contest, 15-9, 15-11.

JACKSON, Mo. -- The Lady Indians (8-0) stayed perfect with a sweep of the rival Lady Tigers.

Cape Central's JV beat Jackson 9-6.

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- The Lady Red Devils were one player short and fell 7-0 to Fredericktown.

"The girls are still improving," said Chaffee coach Amanda Horrell. "Hopefully we can get healthy soon and see more progress."

Jackson 9, Poplar Bluff 3

POPLAR BLUFF -- After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Jackson scored eight runs in the fourth inning to pull away from the Lady Mules.

Lindsey Meyr provided a huge, bases-loaded triple in the fourth.

Ashley Snell picked up the win for the Lady Indians. She went the distance and allowed three earned runs on eight hits and no walks. She fanned four.

Jackson (4-10) managed six hits and seven walks.

"We're finally hitting better," said Jackson coach Becky Riney. "We only had six hits, but he had seven walks. We hadn't been patient at the plate so I was glad to see that."

FOOTBALL

Farmington 14, Cape Central 7

Cape Central's freshmen bowed to Farmington in their first game of the season.

The Tigers' lone score was tallied by Martez Bell on a 35-yard run. Kyle Schuessler kicked the extra point.

In a JV game played Monday, Sikeston defeated Central 18-8. Jay Ruark scored the lone Tiger touchdown.
