"They may not ask us back," Kelly coach Rhonda Ratledge said. "The girls played really well all the way from Friday night."

In the semifinals Beggs held the Bulldogs in check to give the Hawks a spot in the finals. Jessica Burnett had the game-winning RBI in the third on a double which scored Essner. Essner reached on a single and stole second. Beggs struck out seven in the win.

"Beggs was pretty amazing," Notre Dame coach Jeff Graviett said.

The Hawks tagged Bulldog starter Beth Schnurbusch for five hits in two innings of work. Miranda Schlosser pitched five innings of no-hit relief for Notre Dame (11-1).

Kelly won its opener Saturday 3-1 against Cor Jesu. Essner pitched seven innings, allowed three hits and struck out five. Summer Proctor had a two-run triple to lead Kelly's five-hit attack.

Notre Dame made its way into the semifinals with a 14-2 win over Holt. Alana Weissmueller had three hits to lead a 10-hit attack. Whitney Ostendorf and Schlosser had two hits apiece. Schnurbusch pitched four innings for the win.Championship

Seckman TournamentJackson won a pair of 1-0 games to finish 2-2 at the Seckman Tournament.

Darla Mangles threw a two-hitter against Festus for Jackson's first win of the tournament. Jessica Pitts scored the lone run on a passed ball.

Hannah Fowler allowed three hits in Jackson's 1-0 win over Afton to finish the tournament. Hana Bolen scored the game-winning run on a ground out from Chelsea McDowell in the bottom of the seventh.

Amanda Pitts, Kelly McCuan and Jessica Pitts had two hits apiece in a 6-4 loss to Perryville. Jackson lost its opener 7-1 to Pacific.

Howell TournamentCentral split a pair of games Saturday to finish 1-2 at the Francis Howell Tournament.

The Tigers (4-3) beat Oak Park 1-0 behind a goal from Tyson Whiteside. Jordan Young and Tony Leuckel combined for the shutout. Central lost its other game 2-0 to Jefferson City.

Rolla TournamentJackson finished fourth out of 10 teams at the Rolla Tournament.

Jackson beat Waynesville 3-1, Camdenton 4-0 and lost to Glendale 4-0. Derrick Biri, Tyler Beussink, Matt Mueller, Chris Bramlett, Zach Priester and Chris Shelton (2) scored for Jackson. Biri, Chris Kraust (2), Cameron Keller (2), Andrew Schlick and Steven McKinney had assists.

Tyler Holmon had Jackson's shutout. Jackson will host Anna-Jonesboro on Tuesday.

CROSS COUNTRY Kelly InvitationalDistrict opponents Kelly and Notre Dame got an early look at each other in the boys division at the Kelly Invitational. Kelly was the better Class 2 team Saturday, scoring 59 points to finish behind Poplar Bluff (25) and ahead of Notre Dame (61).

Michael Glastetter led Kelly with a seventh-place finish.

Notre Dame had three runners of its five runners in the top 10 -- led by Greg Kanneberg in third. Saxony Lutheran finished fourth with 76 points, led by Trey Maevers' sixth-place showing.

"Kelly ran very well," Notre Dame coach Bill Davis said. "We knew we'd be pushed by Kelly. We feel once we get our other kids back, we'll be OK."

Notre Dame was the runner-up to Doniphan in the girls division. Brooke Beussink was sixth to lead the Bulldogs.

Oak Ridge's Sam Zoellner finished fourth.

Northwest Invitational

The Central girls finished fourth and the boys fifth in the 10-team field at the Northwest Invitational in Cedar Hill, Mo.

Led by Jennifer Pancoast (third in 16:44) and Linnea Woldtvedt (sixth in 17:19), the Tigers girls team scored 84 points, just one behind Eureka and 17 behind first-place Washignton.

Eureka won the boys with 33 while Central tallied 133. John Kipper finished seventh overall.

Jackson made its an annual trek to a crowded meet with 38 schools.

"We go to get experience for state," Indians coach Andrea Talley said. "You have to protect your space with your elbows, and you have to recover from tripping and falling."

David Welker led the boys, finishing 75th in 18:57.

Ashley Meyr was 22nd for the girls (21:32) with Rachel Schmidt 36th in 22:13.

Sam Masters finished fourth in the freshman boys race.

Arcadia Invitational

Perryville had two boys finish in the top 10 and one girl finish top 10 at Acadia Valley.

Overall, the boys finished second and the girls third. Terry Wood finished seventh in 17:17 and Jesse Kueker was eighth in 17:20. Leslie Schilli led the girls with a ninth-place finish.
