Jackson girls cruise to title at Perryville meet

The Jackson girls set three meet records and ran away with the crown at the Perryville Invitational on Tuesday, while Perryville's boys just missed a first-place finish.

The Indians set records in the 400-, 800- and 1,600-meter relays. Melanie Essner, Rebecca Martin, Jenna Holten and Rachel Kahle ran the 400 and 800 relays. Rachel Lowes, Holten, Essner and Martin were on the 1,600 relay.

Perryville's boys finished one-half point behind North County. Kyle Dobbelare had three wins for the Pirates.

Dexter took advantage of three errors in the fifth inning to beat host Central.

The Tigers committed five errors in all and managed only five hits. Brad LaBruyere had two hits for the Tigers, 5-10-1 overall and 3-4 in the SEMO Conference.

Stoddard County Conference Tournament

Advance routed No. 1 seed Dexter 18-2 in the Stoddard County Conference Tournament finals late Monday night.

Dana Williams had four hits and pitched all five innings in the win. Williams had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning but allowed two runs on two hits in the fifth. Angela Broshuis added two hits, and Kacie Ritter had a home run for Advance (9-2).

Carbondale (Ill.) 5, Central 4, OT

Central lost a high-scoring affair on the road.

Lauren Thompson, Chelsey Oliver, Heidi Pilsner and Meghan Orr scored for Central, which led 4-3 before Carbondale scored with three minutes left in regulation.

Megan McDonald, Laura Burdick and Michelle Noland had assists for the Tigers (9-8).
