Saxony Lutheran senior Zach Vaeth earned his fourth consecutive trip to the state golf meet.

Vaeth shot an 11-over-par 81 at Wednesday's Class 2 Sectional 1 meet to finish tied for sixth.

Vaeth will be joined by teammate Collin Sprandel, who finished tied for 15th with an 84 at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Kelly freshman Derrick Garner also earned a state berth by carding an 83. This is Kelly's first year with a golf program.

Vaeth finished tied for 66th at the state meet last year. He tied for 42nd as a sophomore and took 33rd as a freshman.

Sprandel, a sophomore, is making his second trip to the state meet. He tied for 77th last year.

Saxony Lutheran's Garrett Brewer (91) and Luke Mueller (98) and Kelly's Dilan Rucker (107) all missed the state cut.

The Class 2 state meet will be held May 16 and 17 at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo.

Class 1 Sectional 1

St. Vincent will send five golfers to the state meet despite not finishing in the top two at the sectional meet.

The Indians qualified five individuals, led by senior Dustin Yamnitz's 10-over-par 80 at Ozark Ridge Golf Course in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

St. Vincent shot a 347 to finish third. Belle won the sectional title with a 328, and Linn took second with a 341.

St. Vincent seniors Brett Wengert (84) and Zac Carron (93) will be joined by junior Sean Martin (90) and freshman Levi Gotto (94).

Wengert and Martin are making their third straight trips to the state meet. Wengert tied for 34th last year after taking 55th as a sophomore. Martin finished 49th as a freshman and tied for 36th last year. Yamnitz tied for 21st last year.

St. Vincent, which took fourth place last year at the state meet, will compete May 16 and 17 at Sedalia Country Club.

TRACK

SEMO South meet

The Scott City boys and Chaffee girls captured conference meet titles at Chaffee.

Junior Brandon Shemonia won three events to pace the Rams. He took first in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

Garett Schaefer added a pair of firsts for Scott City.

Scott City's Melanie Lacey was a triple individual winner, taking first in the 1,600, 800 and 3,200.

Chaffee's Ellie Sigman took first in the 400, 200 and long jump to pace the Red Devils.

Neil Johnson struck out 14 over seven innings in a losing effort.

Dylan Miller drove in two runs, while Devon Ritter collected two hits for Woodland (7-5).

McDowell stuck out 11 and walked three before yielding to Adam James, who struck out the side in the seventh.

Clayton Baker was 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while Dylan Koehler was 4 for 5 and Laban Petzoldt finished 3 for 5 for Jackson (10-5).

Dakota Zoellner, Jake LeGrand and Andrew Puchbauer all had two hits for the Blue Jays (9-4).
