All the area high school events reported Tuesday to the Southeast Missourian.

Central and Perryville posted consolation semifinal wins Tuesday in the Saint Francis Medical Center Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament at the Show Me Center.

Central, seeded fourth for the eight-team event, blew past eighth-seeded Saxony Lutheran 56-35.

Sixth-seeded Perryville knocked off No. 7 Woodland 42-31.

Central and Perryville will square off at 4:30 p.m. today for fifth place, following the 3 p.m. seventh-place game between Saxony and Woodland.

Senior Sadie Pittman and junior Chelsea Pannier powered Central (5-3) with 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Junior Abby Hartmann paced Saxony (1-4) with 11 points.

The Tigers trailed 11-8 after one quarter before grabbing a 21-17 halftime lead. Central blew things open in the third period with a 23-6 advantage to go ahead 44-23.

Perryville recorded its first win of the season as the Pirates pulled away down the stretch in a game that was close throughout.

The Pirates led just 19-17 at halftime and 25-24 after three quarters, then outscored the Cardinals 17-7 in the final period.

Senior Emily Hanquist paced Perryville (1-3) with 19 points. Junior Natalie Bauwens added 13.

Woodland (3-5) got 14 points from senior Taylor Steckman and 10 from senior Becky Brannon.
