FARMINGTON — A hard-fought battle ends in triumph for the Poplar Bluff Mules.

With one of their star players battling through injury, the Mules needed a spark from the offense, and quarterback Jay Edmundson would take on the task head-on as they faced off against Farmington.

Edmundson’s quick feet out of the backfield helped lead the Mules to their straight win on the season with a 28-14 win over the Farmington Knights.

The Mules entered the game against the Knights leading the all-time series 16-12-1, including a 10-9-1 record in conference matchups. With the Knights coming into the game with a loss from Cape Central, the Mules would have the upper hand, but were battle-tested as they played at half-strength.

The Mules struck across the goal line in the first quarter with a one-yard quarterback keeper from Edmundson for a quick 7-0 lead. After a silent first quarter, the Knights would respond early in the second with a 16-yard run from Brett Drye to even the score.

The Knights would ease across the endzone once again before halftime to take a 14-7 lead.

Despite their recent shortcomings after the half, the Mules did not disappoint this time with the help of the senior duo Darius Graham and Romeoh Wontor. While Graham was limited on the field due to a previous game injury, he still managed to be effective for the Mules with some big plays down the stretch.

Heading into the third, Edmundson would lead his team back to the goal line for another one-yard QB-keeper touchdown to even the score. The Mules smelled blood to start the fourth and continued to execute with a 55-yard touchdown pass on the connection from Edmundson to Graham.

The Mules would tack on another touchdown with a seven-yard run from Logan Hite, giving them a 28-14 lead with two minutes remaining in the contest. With a chance to respond, the Knights would be halted with an intersection from Dylan Hall to seal the deal.

Edumndson threw 16/25 on 223 yards with one passing touchdown and led the Mules in rushing with 181 yards with two touchdowns. The duo of Graham and Wontor combined for 222 receiving yards, while Graham had one touchdown.

The win puts the Mules at 4-3 on the year and winners of three-straight games. Poplar Bluff hosts Kennett next week in its annual Pink Out game.
